Hasmi-Bucknall are Project Managers and Construction Managers for the Bakun Resettlement Scheme involving the re-housing of 10,00 people affected by the construction of the Bakun Hydro-Electric Scheme in Sarawak.
The Bakun Resettlement Scheme program includes new housing communities, downstream of the dam, together with roads, amenity centres and a township which will serve the administrative centre for the resettlement area.
The programme is extremely fast track using construction management techniques normally associated with commercial developments. Hasmi-Bucknall have introduced the concept to meet the scheduled deadlines and to achieve high standards of quality control.
The communities, fifteen in all, are constructed in remote jungle locations which had no proper roads and part of the scheme is the construction of metalled roads to provide access.
The logistics of the Bakun Resettlement Scheme programme is probably the most challenging aspect of the project and had generated the use of unorthodox methods such as precise helicopter surveys of sites.
The programme is nevertheless on track and completed in 1999 with partial impounding of river water already commenced.
