The proposed Mukah Polytechnic shall be one of the newer Polytechnics in which Information Technology (IT) infrastructure will be taken into account at its planning stage. The usage of IT will be fully exploited in the teaching and learning environment as well as in the day-to-day administration of the polytechnic.
The proposed site is strategically located approximately 8.57km south-west of Mukah Town. This proposed site is adjacent to the South China Sea seaside. There are two rivers running adjacent to the site, namely Sungai Judan on the west and Sungai Petian on the east.
The development will take up 100 acres. Mukah Polytechnic will, by 2005, be nurturing 3200 students in various disciplines.
The Polytechnic buildings provide a total gross floor area of 144,757.00 sq. metres. The sitting and design of the various faculties and buildings of the Polytechnic are responsive to the ecology of the site and the harmony with its natural surroundings. The overall design emphasizes on transparency and permeability. The layout of the campus buildings capitalized on the unique qualities of the site in order to create a built environment that blends well with its natural environment, and at the same time, has minimum impact on the ecology of the site.
The components of the Polytechnic include :-
- Infrastructure facilities including the Administrative Centre, Resource Centre, faculties building, Islamic Centre, Mechanical & Civil Engineering Workshop, sport complex, student and staff accommodations
- Extensive IT network
Among Polytechnic’s many faculties are Information Technology, Mathematics, Science and Computer, General Studies, Commerce, Training & Continuing Education, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering.
